Credit Distribution Sheet

On this page, you will see an overview of all of the course requirements necessary to complete your degree. Scroll down on the page to download MS Word versions of the credit distribution sheet for various academic catalog years.

Major Courses

A degree in psychology requires a minimum of 36 earned credits in PSYC, and includes the following:

  • Introductory courses for the 2019-2020 catalogs and earlier:
    • PSYC 209 – General Psychology OR PSYC 215 - Honors General Psychology
    • PSYC 210 – General Psychology I
  • Introductory courses for the 2020-2021 catalogs and later:
    • PSYC 110 - Introduction to Psychology OR PSYC 115 - Honors Introduction to Psychology
    • PSYC 200 - Psychological Science
  • PSYC 315 – Experimental Psychology
  • PSYC 400 – Professional Issues in Psychology
  • PSYC 435 – Principles of Learning
  • PSYC 455 – Human Psychological Development
  • PSYC 330 – Social Psychology OR PSYC 340 – Theories of Personality
  • PSYC 321 – Substance Abuse OR PSYC 425(G) – Principles of Physiological Psychology
  • PSYC 415 – Experimental Psychology II OR PSYC 442 – Psychological Measurement
  • Nine (9) hours of elective courses in Psychology
    •  Elective options exclude PSYC 110 and PSYC 255. Note that PSYC 110 and PSYC 255 (formerly PSYC 313), if taken after declaring Psychology as a major at UL Lafayette, with NOT be applicable toward a degree in psychology.

  • UNIV 100 (3 hours)
  • English (9 hours)
    • ENGL 101 and ENGL 102
    • Any 200-level ENGL literature course
  • Modern Language (9 or 10 hours, depending on catalog)
    • 101, 102, and 201 courses in one of the following: FREN, SPAN, GERM, ARAB, or ASL
  • Math (6 hours)
    • MATH105 or MATH103 (NOTES: an additional 2 hours of MATH 104 must be scheduled with MATH 103; Other college algebra courses, including MATH 109 and MATH 143--but not MATH 102--can also satisfy this requirement)
    • STAT 214
  • Sciences (10 hours)
    • BIOL 121, 122, and 123 (NOTES: the introductory biology sequence for science majors--110, 111, and 112--is also acceptable, but be aware that students cannot switch between sequences. If you take and pass BIOL 110, you must finish the biology sequence for science majors even if it is no longer required.)
    • Physical Science elective (Choose one from CHEM 101, 102; ENVS 100, 280; GEOL 105, 106, 110; PHYS 160, 170, 213)
  • History/Philosophy (6 hours)
    • Any History (other than HIST 490) or any Philosophy courses.
  • Communication (3 hours)
    • Choose from CMCN 100, 101, 202, 212, 302, 310, 345; ENGL 358, 359, 360, 365; THEA 261; or any Modern Language
    • NOTE: Students in catalog/bulletin years PRIOR to 2018/2019 MUST take ENGL 359 to satisfy the Communications requirement.
  • Arts (3 hours)
    • Choose from VIAR 120, 121, 122; THEA 161, 261; MUS 104, 105, 106, 108, 109, 321, 322, 323, 324, 325, 326, 360, 364; DANC 101, 102, 113/114; DSGN 121
  • Behavioral Science (6 hours)
    • Includes courses in ANTH, CJUS, ECON, POLI, or SOCI
    • At least 3 hours must be at the 200-level or higher
  • Humanities (3 hours)
    • Choose from ENGL, MODL, HIST, PHIL, HUMN, or CMCN 100, 101, or 310
  • Philosophy (3 hours)
    • Choose from PHIL 202, PHIL 340, or PHIL 342
  • Advisor-approved electives (4 or 5 hours, depending on catalog)

Notes:

  • all PSYC courses must be passed with a C or better
  • only 1 D is allowed in the minor
  • all pre-requisites and co-requisites must be met (see course descriptions)
  • 45 hours must be completed at the 300-400 level
  • all substitutions must be approved by the PSYC Department Head
