Psychology Faculty Remember Robert "Martin" Whatley
Fri, 10/27/2017 - 10:35amThe Psychology Department is saddened by the loss of former graduate student Robert "Martin" Whatley last weekend. Whatley graduated with an MS in 2006 then went on to obtain another graduate degree in Counseling. He worked as a rehabilitation counselor and was supervised by Dr. Scott Smith. Dr. Lynch remembers him and shared these words: "Most of us remember Martin as a most determined young man. Having dealt with MS for most of his life and bound to a wheelchair, he managed to complete his degrees with high GPAs and go on to be a successful professional. He never complained and always had a smile. His pleasant disposition was always comforting. He often whispered a joke in my ear after physio class...I think he thought I needed one! By example, he put life in perspective for all of us. We complained less and understood that life was not nearly as hard as it could be. He will be deeply missed by all in the Psychology Department who knew him, but we agree that we all are very fortunate to have known him. Our sympathy go out to his girlfriend, family, friends, nursing staff, and coworkers."
Services for Martin were held on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
